Featured Collector – Cuen Art
Freak Shoes had a chat with our first featured sneaker collector. Alberto aka Cuen Art is a sneakerhead and illustrator from Spain with a love for the Jordan Brand. Read in this interview about his art and enthusiasm for kicks and the lifestyle of choice.
Hi Alberto, would you like to introduce yourself in a few sentences?
I am an art director and a sneakerhead, especially collecting Nike and Retro Jordan. I combine my work as an illustrator and designer with the world of sneakers. My drawings are clearly influenced by the world of the street, basketball, hip hop and sneakers.
How did you become a sneakerhead? What were your first kicks that startet it?
I started in the world of sneakers thanks to basketball, which I have been practicing since I was a child. I admired Michael Jordan very much and the first shoes my parents bought me were the Air Jordan 6 Bordeaux.
In which way does sneaker design and your artwork connect?
They are totally connected, as are music and street culture. A creator always tries to reflect the world around him and influences him and for me the sneakers are my passion, literally a sneakerhead.
How will sneaker design evolve in your opinion?
One thing is how I evolved and another is how I would like it to evolve. If it were up to me, I would like to return to the designs of the 90’s and let the new creators be inspired by the great work done by Tinker Hatfield.
What´s your favorite sneaker in your collection?
I really like the Air Jordan 3. I wouldn’t know which one to stay with, but if I had to choose only one I would probably have to choose the Air Jordan 3 Tinker Hatfield which, when you include the swoosh, makes them really special.
What will probably be your next kicks?
I hope I can get an Air Jordans 1 Home to Homage
